About NEET UG
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission to undergraduate medical courses. NEET (UG) 2026 was held on Sunday 3 May 2026, from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM Indian Standard Time, as a single-day, single-shift pen-and-paper test. The information bulletin says the mode is the same as in 2025, citing NMC letter CDN-20011/289/2024-Cordination-NMC dated 5 December 2025. Online applications ran from 8 February 2026 to 8 March 2026 (up to 09:00 PM), with the fee payable until 11:50 PM that day, and a correction window from 10 to 12 March 2026. City intimation, admit cards and the result date were listed as to be announced on neet.nta.nic.in.
The paper has 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions, to be attempted in 180 minutes. Physics has 45 questions (180 marks), Chemistry 45 (180) and Biology, covering Botany and Zoology, 90 (360). The total is 720 marks. Each question has four options and one correct or most appropriate answer. A right answer scores 4 marks, a wrong answer costs 1 mark, and an unanswered question scores 0. The bulletin prints one duration, 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM, for the whole paper, not a separate clock for each subject. A candidate with a physical limitation in writing, whether or not a scribe is used, is allowed one extra hour. The question paper is offered in 13 mediums: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. A candidate who chooses Hindi receives a bilingual booklet in English and Hindi. If a translation is ambiguous, the English version is treated as final.
A candidate must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31 December of the year of the examination. The bulletin's lower-age line for NEET (UG) 2026 prints 31 December 2009. There is no upper age limit. The qualifying examination is Class 12 or an equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Biotechnology, and English; the bulletin's codes 01 to 07 set out the accepted examinations, including a candidate whose Class 12 result is still awaited. To be eligible for undergraduate medical courses, a General or General-EWS candidate needs the 50th percentile. The minimum is the 40th percentile for SC, ST and OBC, the 45th percentile for unreserved and General-EWS candidates with benchmark disabilities, and the 40th percentile for SC, ST and OBC-NCL candidates with benchmark disabilities. These percentiles can be lowered for that year alone if not enough candidates reach them. Ties are broken by higher marks in Biology (Botany and Zoology), then Chemistry, then Physics, then a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers, in the same subject order, and then by a random process.
The score is used for MBBS and BDS, including the 15% All India Quota and seats in AIIMS, JIPMER and other central institutions counselled by the Medical Counselling Committee, and for state-quota seats counselled by the states. It is also used for BAMS, BSMS, BUMS and BHMS, for B.Sc. Nursing, for shortlisting to the Military Nursing Service B.Sc. Nursing course, and for the 15% VCI quota in BVSc and AH. NTA prepares the All India Rank. Counselling authorities make the admissions. The syllabus is the one notified by the National Medical Commission. The bulletin's syllabus FAQ says there is no change from the previous year and points to the NMC site; the unit list used for this practice material is the syllabus enclosed with the NMC public notice of 22 December 2025.
